Hi! Mr Siew

I wold like to check with you regards the salary deduction for late at work.

1) Is there any law that, a staff always late to work have to deduct salary?

2) If deduction lawful, then how to deduct ?

3) if the staff late 5 minutes , then have to deduct 5 minutes ? or deduction from 15 minutes later?

4) If Lunch hour late to work, can be deduct salary ?

You can do that if you think the situation can be improved with that, but I think it is no a good practice. I would recommend that you drum into them the necessity of good work attitude and at the same time have stricter discipline

If I remember correctly, there is this company who set a policy whereby employees who are late for say 15mins for a specific number of times a month will be penalised by deducting their annual leave instead of salary but not before giving warning letters and show cause letter.

I think it's a very good practice.
