Hi

If employee work half day 8.30 - 1.00 pm daily for March - August, then 8.30 - 5pm from September to December, join date 1.3.2020

how to calculate the leave?

You meant in 2019. He is not entitled to any paid leave yet. He must complete 12 months of continuous service to qualify for 8 days annual leave.

I am a bit confused. You mean he will only join on 1/3/2020 and you want to know how to calculate his leave in advance?

Not correct. You can refer to section 60e of the Employment Act all about annual leave.
