Can a company bind an employee for giving him an increment? This happened before I joined this company.

In June 2018, a staff wanted to resign because he got a better offer. Somehow the management raised his salary to match the offer he received and in the increment letter, it is mentioned that he would be binded for 2 years. He would have to pay the company a certain amount should he resign within 2 years.

Now the staff wants to resign. Can the bond be enforced?

We really would not know whether the company is going to sue or not. The staff concerned can go and consult a lawyer if necessary.
