Sick leave and hospitalisation

Hello,

I just joined as HR and this role is new to me. Today I was told by my colleague that his salary was deducted as unpaid sick leave because his employement was not confirmed during his hospitalisation period ( 9 days medical cert was issued to him). He went for a surgery. When I check with the HR person-in-charge, I was told that during probation period, employees are not entitled to any leave, and paid medical/hospitalisation leave. So even when he applied for sick leave, it was treated as unpaid sick leave. I would like to know if this is allowed as per Malaysian labour law? Thanks in advance for your kind guidance.

Hi,

Sick Leave/Hospitalisation Leave should be immediately entitled to all employees upon joining a company.

Thank you for your reply, Mdkamil. Indeed he should be given paid sick leave/hospitalisation leave. It was a mistake and I will rectify this issue.
