The company that I am working currently have all their staff on a 1 to 2 years contractual basis. New contract will be offered after the end of the previous contract.

my question is, how long does the company can hire staff on contractual basis? A friend of mine informed that there is a regulation about hiring contract staf where a contractual employee will be considered as a permanenet employee when he/she been offered for a new contract more than 2 times. Is it true?

what about hiring expatriate on a renewable contract every 1 or 2 years? Is it legal to do it in Malaysia?

I am not aware of any regulations about long the contract can go or becomes permanent after 2 renewals. As far as I know, expatriates can be employed but they must have work permit from the Immigration Department.
