insufficient notice of resignation

Dear Sir / Mdm,

A staff tendered resignation giving 20days notice but employment letter said she is required to serve 30days termination notice. Since she is leaving early, the company should deduct 1 month pay in lieu of notice or deduct the last 10days that she didnt work?

Please advise.

Only deduct the remaining days.

I asked another HR persons, he told me deduct whole month since she dint give 30days notice in writing but I think its not fair to deduct whole month.
