Is it appropriate that an employer reserves the rights not to give the employee take the earned leave during probabtion? I was told that any leave approved will be considered as unpaid leave during probation.

Under the Employment Act, you have to complete 12 months service before eligible for paid leave. So, they may give you only unpaid leave if it is not your company's practice to give paid leave proportionate to the months of completed service.
