During HR suspended me:1) They requested me to return the laptop and External Hard drive on the spot? Is this correct procedure?2) The 2 items are not with HR, but passed to my manager. Is this correct procedure?

You should return them to the party that requests the return of the items.

But how come all items not with HR? The requested person in charge? What can I do?

Hand them over to the person who asked you for them and get him to acknowledge receipt of the items handed over.

The problem is immediately return, no handover list?

You prepare the list(laptop, ext hard drive etc) and let him sign on it as acknowledgement.

They asked to go back immediately. So, what is the present situation now? Are you still at the workplace or at home and the laptop and external hard drive are still with you or not?

I am still suspended. The equipment all with my manager, not HR.

So, just tell the person who asked you to hand over laptop and drive that the items are with the manager so and so.

1. Never keep personal information in  company's computers especially information that could cause you embarrassment  or incriminating.

2. Don't hope they will ever allow you to touch you laptop again. They surely don't want the possibility of the data being tampered with.

In short, I don't think there is anything much you can do about it.
