my company's official working hours are 9.30-6.30, Mondays to Fridays. There was a rush job, and the whole department was asked to come back to work on a public holiday (which incidentally fell on a saturday).

my question is, is the company obligated to replace the public holiday?

a quick reply is appriciated.

thanks

There will not be any replacement if it falls on Saturday. If falls on Slunday, then yes. See the Section below about 'rest day' :

(1) Every employee shall be allowed in each week a rest day of one whole day as may be determined from time to time by the employer, and where an employee is allowed more than one rest day in a week the last of the rest days shall be the rest day for the purposes of this Part:

You were talking about replacement. There will not be replacement for PH falling on Saturdays. In your case, you were asked to work on Saturday which is your rest day, your company should pay you or give you another day off. To make it clearer, if you do not work on that Saturday on which a PH falls, you don't get a replacement. On the other hand if the PH falls on Sunday, you get a replacement.
