lateness & service point deduction

Hi, i am working in a restaurant.

Currently we are using point system in our restaurant. I am confused to how to deal with staff's punctuality and deduction of wages.

For example a kitchen helper's salary is rm350 + 3points. our point will roughly be rm200 per point so the staff will be getting about Rm950 monthly as salary. But the problem is recently we came out with a new company policy that we will give the staff 3chances( in warning letter form). First warning letter on late we will not deduct their salary. But if lateness continues for the next month we will issue a second warning letter and deduct one of their point.

In this case if the staff get the second warning letter, his point will be deducted no matter how many times or minutes they late to work in that particular month. Is it right to do so?

From the way you described it, the new policy seems to be very confusing. Anyway, since there is a new policy and the policy has been made known to the staff, the policy has to be implementated, right or wrong isn't it? Otherwise what is the point of having such a new policy. Just implement it and see what will happen.
