Good Day To You,

Kindly advise how to calculate salary for newly joined staff, details as below:

1) Joined date: 7/3/2012

2) Basic Salary: RM5300

3) Basic Salary divided by 24 days (according to company policy)

4) 5 days work only.

I've work out the calculation like this = RM5300/24*18 (actual no. of working days). Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

He is paid RM5300 per month ( which mean all days including rest days, holidays, sick leave should be paid also).

From 7/3 to 31/3, there are 25 days, therefore he should get 5300/31 x 25 = 4274.19.

So, 5300/31 x 25 = 4274.19 while 5300/24 x 18 = 3975, there is a difference, isn't it?

Thanks for the reply.

Company is calculating the basic salary by dividing 24 days, so Saturday & Sunday will excluded. But public holidays, sick leave included. If in this case, am my calculation correct?

Thanks.

It does not matter which method is used as long as you think it is correct and there is no dispute. If there is a dispute, you may refer the matter to the Labour Office for an official opinion.

Why it is 24 days instead of 26 days? My previous company is calculate base on 26 days. But my current company use 31 days. I personally feel 31days is not fare to employee.

As i joined on 26/3/2012

Method 26 days= RM4000/26*=RM923.08

Method 31 days=RM4000/31*6=774.19

Short of RM148.89

Put it this way, your salary is 4000.00 per month. In March there are 31 days. Each day you should get 4000/31. For the 6 days, you should get 4000/31 x 6 = 774.19. Just to cross check, for the first 25 days, it should be 4000/31 x 25 = 3225.81. So, 774.19 + 3225.81 = 4000, not more and no less. If 26 is used, it looks like they are paying more than it should be.
