Hi,

I just want to know the definition between Off Day and Rest Day. Say, working schedule Monday - Friday, Saturday is Off Day and Sunday is Rest Day?

How about for OT calculation for saturday is it x 1.5 or 2.0? understood Sunday is 2.0.

When i refer to EC1955, 60 (3) (b) (i & ii) its stated as per below. I'm not understand on the definition. can anyone assist?

(b) In the case of an employee employed on a monthly rate of
pay who works on a rest day, he shall be paid for any period of
work—
(i) which does not exceed half his normal hours of work,
wages equivalent to half the ordinary rate of pay for
work done on that day; or

(ii) which is more than half but which does not exceed his
normal hours of work, one day’s wages at the ordinary
rate of pay for work done on that day.

Thank you.

Section 59 of the Employment Act is clear about it.

59. Rest days.

(1) Every employee shall be allowed in each week a rest day of one whole day as may be determined from time to time by the employer, and where an employee is allowed more than one rest day in a week the last of the rest days shall be the rest day for the purposes of this Part:

KL Siew, thank you for your response,

is it the calculation correct? Monday - Saturday = x 1.5 x OT h and PH = 3.0 x OT?

because in 60 (3) (b) (i & ii), stated ;

(b) In the case of an employee employed on a monthly rate of
pay who works on a rest day, he shall be paid for any period of
work—
(i) which does not exceed half his normal hours of work,
wages equivalent to half the ordinary rate of pay <<< what does it mean?

(ii) which is more than half but which does not exceed his
normal hours of work,
one day’s wages at the ordinary
rate of pay
<<< what does it mean? correct me if am wrong, am confuse

It simply means if you work less than half day on rest day, you get half day's salary extra, work more than half day, you get one day salary extra.

Sir I think you mean "if you work less than or equal to half day on rest day...."

At least that's what I think it should be.

Thanks.
