Forced Half Month Unpaid Leave

I've been working for this company for more than 2 years. Last month, in the mid of April, they announced that all employees are forced to take half month unpaid leave since the company ran into some financial difficulties.

This was verbal and no written memo was given. They said it was a small company only.

So subsequently, we were immediately put on leave and the end of April, we only received half month salary.

It is the same for month of May as well and they said it will go on till June/July

Is this legal? Can a company force employees to take half month unpaid leave for three months in a row?

I think you have to discuss the problems with the local Labour Department with more details. Unable to comment much here.
